During the month of September the Marquette Police Department responded to a total 16 calls for service, which resulted in 1 case investigation being conducted. During September 10 traffic stops were conducted and 5 traffic citations were issued through the Municipal Court.
We had numerous appearances in Municipal Court in September and one warrant was issued for failure to comply with a court order. 2 Juveniles were sentenced to 50 hours each of Community Service for unlawful operation of vehicles on the Pioneer Trail and they have been completing those hours with the Police Department and Public Works. Currently we also have two adults on reporting probation and Chief Webb is serving as the Court Services Officer until a new one is selected.
For the annual Smoky on the Thunder event we had two officers present for the duration of the event and it was successful with no issues.
Officer Birdsong attended the second portion of his Post Academy Training at KLETC in Hutchinson for 24 hours of scenario based training. I received the report back from the academy and he did very well on his practical scenarios. Officer Birdsong has begun solo patrol and is working shifts on his own now.
Captain King and Officer Birdsong also attended a Tactical Medical Training in Hutchinson and learned valuable lifesaving skills.
On October 4, all three of us attended a safety event for Marquette Learning Center students and Smoky Valley Pre-School students, which was hosted by the Marquette Fire Department. We were also joined by Marquette EMS and students got the opportunity to interact with first responders, see our equipment, and vehicles.
Also coming up in October we will be participating in two Trunk or Treat events in town and will have an officer out during trick-or-treating hours on Halloween.

09/19/24 24-040 Warrant Arrest/Drug Arrest Municipal & District #108
On September 19, 2024 the Municipal Court issued an arrest warrant for an individual for failure to comply with an order issued at the July court date. Officers from the Marquette Police Department went to serve the warrant at his residence and took him into custody. At that time he was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. He was transported to the McPherson County Adult Detention Facility and booked in upon the warrant (Municipal Court) and felony drug law violations (District Court).
