During the month of June, the Marquette Police Department responded to a total of 33 calls for service, including 12 traffic stops that resulted in 9 traffic citations being issued through the Municipal Court. Additionally, the Police Department took 7 case reports. Of those reports, 2 cases were filed in Municipal Court, one for a criminal offense and one for code violations relating to animals. Additionally, 3 of the remaining cases were filed in McPherson County District Court after 3 juveniles were arrested on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after a late night crime spree.
Last month Officer Elmer tenured his resignation from the Police Department and his last day of employment was on June 25th. David King has been hired as the Captain of the Police Department and has begun employment at the start of the month. I am in the process of reviewing applications for the third part-time position.
I have been working on completing and updated Policy and Procedure Manual for the Police Department and expect to have it sent to the City Attorney for review by the end of the month. After it is reviewed by the City Attorney it will be presented to the governing body to be adopted.
